Diversity & Inclusion Committee
The parent-led Diversity & Inclusion Committee at Ogden International School formed in the fall of 2017 from an urgent sense of responsibility to explore the explicit and implicit biases that prevent community cohesion. We believe that the ideal state of a school community is inclusion, not assimilation. We will work to examine, consider, and respect all perspectives during the development of academic and extracurricular school programming by embracing differences in race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, religion, gender, and sexual identity. The committee will work to inspire deeper and more comprehensive conversations within the community with the goal of true appreciation of our diverse school body.

In January/February 2018, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee engaged a 3rd party consultant, Single Story, Inc., to perform a Diversity & Inclusion study at Ogden.
It was a 2-part initiative: survey and focus groups. The purpose of the survey was to collect raw data from participants about their perspective of the school's diversity efforts. The focus groups allow for the quantitative data collection in a safe environment. This data allowed Single Story to develop a multi-year framework that will help to strengthen Ogden and make our school a more inclusive learning involvement for our diverse community.
In many organizations, the benefits of diversity, equity, and inclusion are viewed as intangibles – good things to have, to do and to profess, but not necessarily the grounds of structured processes and accountability. The data from the AMID survey can convert thoughts, ideas, and assumed best practices into benchmarked numbers for real goal setting. This type of initiative by Ogden is a game-changer. It is a differentiating factor at Ogden and helps us create true Global Citizens.
