Sensory Room at East Campus
This school year, our team has created a 21st century Sensory Room for our K-5 students to relax, be creative, and stimulate and develop their minds at Ogden.
Our students have unique learning differences and it's important that time is made for our students who are over or under stimulated to have sensory breaks built into their schedule as part of our curriculum to help make positive choices to balance their sensory lives. The room will be full of equipment to stimulate visual, auditory and tactile sensations such as LED lights and lanterns, ocean wave projector, weighted blankets and vests, fluffy pillows, canopy, rocking chair and more! These materials will help keep us in contact with our surroundings and create a relaxing space and multi–sensory learning environment in our school.
It is important to understand that the sensory room is a neutral room. It is not a reward for positive behavior or a room to help a student calm down. The room should NEVER be used as a place to go if a child is having a “difficult moment.” The room is to be used as part of a therapy/educational program.
Research shows that creating a sensory room can reduce agitation and anxiety and can encourage and increase communication, positive behavior, motivation and best of all, the love of learning!
Thank you to the Friends of Ogden for helping us make this dream come true for our students!
